Stone Fruit Seed: A Source of Renewable Fuel for Transport

This study investigated the suitability of stone fruit seed as a source biodiesel for transport. Stone oil (SFO) was extracted from and converted into biodiesel. The yield 95.75% produced using alkaline catalysed transesterification process with methanol-to-oil molar ratio 6:1, KOH catalyst concentration 0.5 wt% (weight %), reaction temperature 55 °C 60 min. physicochemical properties were determined found to be closest match standard diesel. engine performance, emissions combustion behaviour four-cylinder diesel fuelled SFO blends 5%, 10% 20% diesel, v/v basis, tested. testing performed at 100% load speed ranging 200 2400 rpm. average brake specific fuel consumption thermal efficiency 4.7% 15.4% higher 3.9% 11.4% lower than those respectively. results also revealed that have marginally in-cylinder pressure heat release rate compared mass fraction burned slightly faster 5% blend about 1.9% NOx 17.4% unburnt HC 23.4% particulate matter (PM) fuel. To summarise, are recommended suitable transport addressing problems improving performance marginal sacrifice efficiency.
